HMRC has amended tax relief to offset the additional costs of working from home on a regular basis. They want the relief to be available to taxpayers forced to work from home due to coronavirus.
For the sake of simplicity, a claim covers the whole year regardless of actual time spent.
HMRC says: “We recognise that the working-from-home situation is very fluid this year, so we’re accepting claims for the full year’s expenses. That includes even if people have only worked from home for some of the year, to avoid needing to contact us if you have to work from home again.”
So, even if you’ve only had to work from home for one day, you can claim a full year’s working-from-home relief.
The rules are the same for part time workers. Each individual working at home in a household can claim.
