Shopping online: problems and rights

Black Friday (27th) and Cyber Monday (30th) will see millions of people shopping online.  Good timing for National Consumer Week (NCW20), the annual Citizens Advice campaign to alert consumers to shoppers’ problems and rights.

This year it’s super-important because online has grown so much in lockdown. 

Many more families are relying on the internet to buy essentials.  It’s vital they know their rights.  NCW will focus on:

• Problems.  Citizens Advice Consumer Service reports the most common problems are: scams, defective goods, and particularly parcel delivery.
• Rights.  Many people don’t know that their rights might be different when shopping online.
• Redress.  Shoppers struggle to get a refund or return an item.

Partners with Citizens Advice in NCW20 are Trading Standards and the Business, Energy and Innovation Department.
