Today Citizens Advice published an essential checklist for private renters at a worrying moment.
The charity and housing organisations fear a big increase in homelessness if the government ban on evictions ends Sunday (20 Sept) as planned.
Local data from Citizens Advice Reigate and Banstead show the fear is justified.
This summer (Jun-Aug 2020) the number of people asking CARBS for help with private renting grew by a remarkable 140% over the same period in 2019. Citizens Advice at national level reports a 43% increase.
The 5-situation checklist provides vital information for anyone whose home might be at risk:
1 If your landlord wants to evict, find out where you are in the process
2 If you haven’t received notice yet but are worried about eviction
3 If you’ve received a notice
4 If your notice is expiring and you’re due to go to court
5 If you’ve had a possession order and are facing eviction.
